Jackson Gutter FAQ

Honest answers to the questions we hear most often. Don’t see your question? Give us a call.

Installation & Cost

How much does gutter installation cost per linear foot?

It varies by material (aluminum, steel, copper), size (5" vs. 6" K-style, half-round, box), color, downspout count, story count, and whether existing gutters need removal. Aluminum 5" K-style is the most affordable; 6", copper, and box gutters cost more. We quote in writing after we measure your roofline.

How long does gutter installation take?

For most residential homes, a one-day job. Larger homes (3,000+ sq ft of roof area), two-story homes with complex rooflines, or homes with fascia repair needed can stretch to two days. We tell you the expected timeline at quote.

Do you remove and dispose of old gutters?

Yes. Removal of existing gutter is a separate line item on the quote, and we haul away the debris. No pile of old aluminum left in your yard.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, check, and major credit cards. For larger residential jobs, half at scheduling and balance on completion. Commercial accounts run on net-30.

Gutters, Sizing & Materials

What's the difference between seamless and sectional gutters?

Seamless gutter is formed continuously on a roll-former at your house, with seams only at corners. Sectional gutter comes in 10-foot pieces joined end-to-end with sealed seams. Seams are where 90% of gutter leaks happen. Seamless = fewer leak points and a cleaner look.

Should I get 5-inch or 6-inch gutters?

5" K-style is standard residential and works fine for most Jackson homes. 6" K-style is worth the upgrade if you have a large roof area, a steep roof that dumps water fast, or you've had overflow problems with the existing gutters. We recommend based on your actual roof.

Is copper worth the cost?

For historic restoration, premium custom homes, and certain architectural styles — yes. Copper lasts 50+ years with no maintenance, develops a beautiful natural patina, and adds value. For a regular 1990s subdivision home, aluminum is fine and the copper premium isn't justified. We'll be honest about which category you're in.

What colors are available?

Aluminum gutters come in 30+ baked-on enamel colors. Most popular in Jackson: white, almond, brown, bronze, and black. We bring a color sample card to match your trim or shutters.

Maintenance & Guards

How often should gutters be cleaned?

Twice a year in Jackson: late spring after pollen/seed pods drop, and late fall after leaves are down. Heavy tree canopy may need a third cleaning in mid-summer.

Are gutter guards worth it?

For homes with tree canopy, usually yes — stainless micro-mesh guards drop cleaning frequency from twice-a-year to every-few-years. For open-lot homes, often not worth the upfront cost. We tell you honestly which category you're in.

What's the best gutter guard?

Stainless steel micro-mesh is the gold standard. It blocks even pine needles and seed pods while letting water through. Reverse-curve hoods are second-best. Screen guards are budget-friendly but let fine debris through. Foam inserts we generally don't recommend.

Do I still need to clean gutters if I have guards?

Yes, just much less often. Even the best guards need an annual visual check and occasional debris brushing off the top surface. Companies that sell "never clean your gutters again" are overselling. We're straight about this.

Drainage & Foundation Issues

My basement is wet. Are gutters the cause?

Often, yes. Gutters that overflow or downspouts that dump water within 2 feet of the foundation are the #1 cause of basement and crawlspace water in Jackson homes. Fix the gutters and route the downspouts properly and many basement issues resolve. We walk the property and tell you straight if gutters are the issue.

Do I need underground downspout drainage?

If you've got persistent foundation water, yes — aboveground extensions are a partial fix; underground PVC routed to the property edge is the permanent one. We design the drainage and install it.

How far should downspouts extend from the house?

At least 4-6 feet, more if you can. Splash blocks help; flexible extensions help more; underground drainage to the property edge is the gold standard.

My gutters overflow during heavy rain. What's wrong?

Several possible causes: (1) gutters are clogged and need cleaning; (2) downspouts are clogged or there are too few of them; (3) the gutters are undersized for the roof area; (4) the pitch is wrong and water pools instead of flowing to the downspouts. We diagnose and fix.
