Commercial Gutter Types
- 6″ and 7″ K-style — oversized K-style for buildings with larger roof areas than residential. Standard for retail, restaurant, and small commercial.
- Box gutters (5″–10″) — square-profile gutters for industrial and warehouse buildings with large flat or low-slope roofs. Higher capacity than K-style.
- Built-in / box-gutters integrated into roofline — older commercial buildings and certain architectural styles. Restoration and replacement when needed.
- Parapet scuppers — through-wall drainage on flat-roof buildings with parapet walls. Repair and replacement of scupper boxes and conductor heads.
- Conductor heads & decorative leader boxes — architectural decoration on historic commercial
- Heavy-duty downspouts — sized for commercial roof loads, often 4″×5″ or 4″×6″ rectangular, or 4″+ round
Common Commercial Gutter Problems
- Undersized gutters and downspouts — original spec didn’t account for the roof area; gutters back up and overflow at the parapet or eave
- Failed seams — old sealants give out; rebuild with proper sealants and brackets
- Sagging long runs — old hangers fail under load; rehang with commercial-rated brackets
- Failed scupper boxes — corroded or undersized through-wall drainage on flat roofs; replace with properly sized scuppers
- Tenant complaints about overflow — water dumping on customer walkways or company logos; reroute downspouts and/or upsize gutter
